Q: Hi everyone, is it better to buy a used car in Chicago or California?
Will be moving to CA from CHI and need a new car, don’t know if it is a good idea to buy a car in IL, because of the snow.
A: It depends on the age and mileage of the vehicle you wish to purchase. Most of today’s vehicles have far better corrosion resistance than in years past, and there are certainly plenty of corrosion-free used vehicles available in the Chicago area for sale. Have any car inspected prior to purchase.
One other issue to be aware of is that vehicles from CA have different emissions controls than those sold in other states. Purchasing a car in CA should assure you that it meets state regulations. You can review CA requirements via the Web address below.
Vehicles registered in other states (with proof of same) can be brought to CA by new residents. See the Web address below for details.
Good luck.
Q: Dominic “Dom” O’Neal here, can somebody please tell me where I can get some new hubcaps 4 my car in Chicago?
A: Any decent sized parts store will have a selection of replacement hubcaps. They’re normally pretty cheap. I’ve seen discount sets for $20
Walmart has a bunch of cheap ones, but you’ll have to go to the suburbs to find a walmart.
If you want exact replacements you’ll have to go to a dealership or the junkyard.

-how much does it cost to rent a hotel i new york city for 2 week(you can just tell me for a day i will do the math)

Q: Is there any snags in buying a new car across state lines (MI) and bringing it back to Illinois?
Chicago taxes are killer and I’m looking at saving some $ by purchasing a new car in MI (where I’m originally from). Is there any potential penalties, legal ramifications, or other red flags I should know before I do it?
A: Your busted!! Unfortunately for you the taxes for a car purchase are based on where you live, not where you buy. For example, people buying in Cincinnati, OH but living in N. Ky. have to pay taxes based on where they live. The only exception would be in the case of dual residences where you maintain a mailing address and property in MI.
Looks like your stuck!
Q: is there a brake in for driving a new car im picking it up in tx going to chicago?
A: I would just excelerate easy and keep it at steady speeds as much as possible for the first 1000 miles. It should come with an owners manual that will tell you exactly how they want you to break it in.
Q: Why aren’t there more hot dog street car vendors in downtown Chicago, like you see in New York?
Permits, competition, etc.
A: The permits you have to buy from the city are to expensive!!And its a cryin shame-those were the best hot dogs in the word!!!!
Q: how can I tell if I need a new car battery or a new alternator?
I recently purchased a 1991 Chevy beretta from a private owner, it has been running good for the last 3 weeks despite this cold Chicago winter weather, but all of a sudden today it wouldnt start, it was a -5 degrees today and everyone was tellin me it was the weather that killed the battery, but it wont start period it makes no roaring sound when I turn the key or nothing, I have an alarm, my alarm won’t chirp, and my power locks wont lock, my uncle told me the battery was dead and I need to purchase, a new one, but my brother told me it may be the alternator I need, he said he couldnt tell if it was the alternator unless the car was started, I got a jump from my cousin and the car started to make a little noise when I turned the key but still didnt start up, and my alarm was working and power locks then about an hour later my alarm wasnt working no more and the power locks werent working anymore and again the car nade no roaring, so how can I tell if I need a battery or new alternator
A: this could be a battery failure or a charging system failure.
First take your battery out of the car and take it to get tested. this will require that the battery be charged for at least 2 hours before testing. this will determine if the battery is bad. replace it if bad.
put the battery back into car and start. now take car into have charging system tested. if alternator is bad replace it. there are autozone part stores in the Chicago area that will test both for free.
don’t disconnect the battery with the engine running. the alternator will not work without the battery as it requires voltage to generate voltage and disconnecting the battery while running could cause other electrical components the fail!!!!
Q: so some of the state have the 72hours return policy but not in chicago,il?
we get a new car in chicago,il on friday try to return it about 3hours later. they would not take it back.
A: I believe certain dealers offer this and it may have been a temporary offer.I remember seeing a commercial but can’t remember the maker or the length they gave for return. Some will do it if you lose your job within a year but again only certain dealers. So it is not a normal or regular policy.
Q: Should a brand new car battery die in 3 days?
Hi! I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I just had the alternator and battery replaced a few days ago. The car ended up sitting outside in the Chicago cold for the past few days (Wed pm – Sat pm) and I just went out and the car wouldn’t start! I know that cold can cause car batteries to die but after only 3 days of sitting??? Should I have the battery replaced again? Is this typical in cold weather? Thanks in advance for the help!
A: it is always a good idea to have your new battery load tested. Yes even new batteries can go bad. however not all battery stores can do this, which means you have a better chance of a bad, new battery. that said, did you put your new battery, on a battery charger, and make sure it had a full charge, when you put it in, it may not have had a full charge, when it was installed, batteries are 80% charged or less coming from the factory, and it may have sat around a while since then. ALWAYS CLEAN BATTERY TERMINALS ONCE A YEAR OR SO there can be a build up between battery posts and cables and at some point there is too much resistance and it will not charge. It is a good idea to have the battery charged by a battery charger, occasionally, if you drive daily then it is seldom necessary, but if you drive only occasionally, batteries lose charge every day. they are also susceptible to heat, cold and vibration. some car manufacturers, like mercedes, put their battery into the trunk for this reason. you get what you pay for in batteries these days, and some el cheapo batteries are made that way too. good luck I hope this helps
Q: What’s the cheapest way to go to from new york to chicago?
What’s the cheapest way to go to from new york to chicago? By plane, bus, train or a car?
A: This is inconvenient, but to save money, I used to take Amtrak from NYC to the closest airport served by Southwest Airlines, and then fly on Southwest.
Southwest flies out of BWI (Baltimore-Washington) which is not a bad ride on Amtrak. They fly out of Islip where it takes a long time to get on the LIRR (but it’s a cheap long inconvenient LIRR ride). They’ve started flying out of someplace in Connecticut (like, I think it’s Hartford?) and maybe that would be the best option.
Or, you can take Amtrak from NY to Chicago.
Q: I want to buy a new car, but I heard new car smell can kill you?
That “new car smell” can be hazardous to your health, The Ecology Center, a Berkeley, Calif., environmental group said. The Ecology Center said toxic chemicals such as bromine, chlorine and lead found in cars’ interiors give off harmful fumes for three years, the Chicago Tribune reported.
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/55237.html
I guess “used” it is
A: The “new car” scent is called offgassing.
This happens when you get anything new, new home, new carpet, etc.
It is usually not harmful, but on rare occasion, there are people who are sensitve to these fumes, and can become sick.
Just google offgassing and decide for yourself.
Q: How much for new interior of a car?
I drive a 95′ Buick Le Sabre. I have to purchase a new interior for my car due to the ignorance of people. I have to completely replace the left panel of my front passenger door, new fabric for both seats in the front, new fabric for basically the roof of the car, and new fabric for both visor’s. I Live in the Chicago land region, so if anyone has any suggestions to price, how long it will take, yada yada yada. It would be greatly appreciated.
A: Between $600.00 to $750.00 dollars………….time frame between 2 to 4 days.
Q: What is There to do On New Years Eve for 3 18 years old w/o a car?
Me and my 3 friends want to do something in chicago for new years but we MIGHT not have the car and that FUCKS up our plans so could someone tell me what to do.
REMINDER: We are on the bus
A: You still have legs right ? Even if not you can still get around . Here’s an idea why not get a hotel room and just walk to the parties and or get a taxi ? Safer if your going to be drinking even if your NOT 21
Q: Can another state seize my car for unpaid parking tickets?
I use to live in Chicago, Illinois and I received a few parking tickets that I never paid on an Illinois owned vehicle. I recently moved to Wisconsin and now I have a new car with new Wisconsin plates on it. I just want to know if I visit Chicago in my new car with Wisconsin plates can they still seize my car?
A: not traffic detail/but if your stopped and they run your drivers license your toast/friday night and its in the clink/for the week end
Q: Where can I rent a new BMW M3 or 6 Series in Chicago?
What is a car rental company that rents one of these cars in Chicago? Thank you!
A: I have actually looked into this kind of thing for myself and there are none at this time. There are supercar rentals like lamborghini’s and such but they are more a long term rental service like you join for a year for a couple thousand bucks and get so many weekends with some of their rare cars. I wish more upscale rentals were available. Maybe if you post a bmw rental wanted ad on craigslist someone would consider renting your theirs for a reasonable rate if they have a car collection and don’t drive them all?
