Q: Do Anyone know a Car DEALERSHIP NEAR ILLINOIS That Would Give Me More Money Than Worth For My Bad Trade in?
I HAVE A 2000 WHITE MONTE CARLO AND THE MOST I CAN GET FOR IT IS $2000, IT NEEDS A NEW BUMPER, FENDER THE INTERIOR IS BAD AND IT NEED SOME ENGINE WORK SO BASICALLY IT’S TRASH. BUT I STILL OWE $9500 ON IT AND I WANT TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD A NEW CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO GET $4000 – 5000 FOR IT?

A: Is fairytale land in Illnois? The dealers there buy cars for more then what their worth.

Q: Live in Missouri, just bought a used car from a dealership in Illinois, now what?
I called my insurance and switched it over. I know I have 30 days to pay sales tax at the DMV here in Mo. What else? How do I transfer my old plates to this new car? What is required to register this car in Missouri?

A: If you still have your old plates, take them, along with the bill of sale for the new car to county clerks office. they will collect tax, and register your new car with your old plates.

Note: it is usually a good idea to get new plates, as you will be paying for 12 month’s registration regardless of the sticker date on your plates.

Q: What do I need to buy a car in Illinois from a dealership And from a car auction.?
i wanted to know is it necessary to have a drivers license to buy a car from Illinois car auction? I have my learners permit and I am trying to buy a car so I can take the driving test for my license. but I don’t have anyone car to use for road test. Does anyone know how i can get my license without buying a car from somewhere cause I already have my learners permit. I got that when I was in high school ‘m tired of renewing year after year.

A: justagirl, I found a list of several auto auction and government seized sites. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Government-Seized-Auto-Auctions.html These sites probabaly have a FAQ page to help you. It looks like they cost a small fee to join, but I couldn’t find any free resources online. Since the inventory is always changing, your annual fee is probably used to keep the site up to date.

Q: Why are car dealerships in Illinois closed on sunday, is it actually a law, and if so why?
BLUE LIGHT LAW?

A: As far as I can tell, it is law, with two rationales given.

The first is that it is a hold-over “blue law”, which
traditionally restrict shopping hours to accomodate
Christian Sunday worship. There is a corollary to this
in that it is “family friendly” to businessmen because
it lets them spend Sunday with their families. See
ref #1 and #2.

Another argument is that it helps support small businessmen.
The idea is that this inconvenience might cause some
people to postpone their purchase, but it probably wouldn’t
cause them to cancel it. Therefore, the theory is that
it won’t actually cost the small businessmen any sales;
however, it *will* allow them to save expenses by not
having to pay salaries for that day.

See comment/posting in ref #3.

Q: buy here pay here car dealerships in illinois?
where can i find a but here pay here car lots in illinois? I have really bad credit and a recent repo? or where can I buy a car in illinois with my credit situation

A: Find the dirtiest city near you and drive into the worst part of town. Stop at the nastiest street corner and there will surely be a dirt-trap BHPH dealership somewhere close. Search the lot for the first car you see that has all 4 wheels and doesn’t have too many empty anti-freeze containers in the back seat. Take a good look because THAT’S your new pride and joy.

Q: Can you register a car in Illinois without a license?
I am wanting to know if you can buy a car from a dealership (small or large) without a drivers license and still register it and receive plates for the car in the state of Illinois?

A: Unfortunately, the answer is no.

This is pretty common. You need to find a person with a license to own the car for you.

There are other ways, like having a corporation own the car, but it is a pain in the derriere.

Q: Is it legal for a car dealership to call your home after?
I purchased a car ten days ago, and signed all paperwork. Now their general manager is calling after business hours saying i need to return the car.

Optional Information:
Decatur, Illinois

A: You should find out why they are calling. There are often clauses in car sales contracts that say you can take the car right away, and the dealer will try to find a loan at a certain rate. But if they cannot get a loan at that rate, you must return the car and pay a daily, and/or mileage rate which is often quite high. It’s my experience that it’s never a good idea to take a car before the financing is in place. Just a thought.

Q: can i return a car to the dealership?
I bought a car (2005 honda civic) from dealership in TN. and later i found out that there was an accident to the car. Before i buy a car, i noticed some stuff needed to be fixed. The dealership told me that because the car is under warranty, i can fix it in any Honda dealership for free.

after buying the car, I moved to Illinois and went to another honda dealership… i found out there was an accident and all the stuff i wanna fix is NOT under warranty.

Can i return the car to the dealership? If so, what should i do? carfax doesn’t show any accidents. i checked the report myself…

A: Nope.
After buying it, you have 3 days. After that, it’s your problem because it is a used car.
New cars are covered by the Lemon Laws in your state, used cars are not. It’s your responsibility when you buy the car to read the warranty info and see if what you want fixed is covered, which on a used car is generally not very much.
If you can prove that the car was in fact in an accident and you have it in writing that the dealership said it wasn’t, or that the car is in some way unsafe because of the accident, then maybe you have something.
Other than that, caveat emptor.

Sorry, but it looks to me like you are stuck with paying to have the stuff fixed yourself.

Q: Can employers deduct service costs from commission checks?
In an Illinois car dealership, commission checks are given each month on service sales. The employer keeps deducting the costs of customers’ rental cars from the check. Is this a legal deduction? Every thing we have read, says no, but does anyone else have any answers? This employer does not even tell the employee that they are taking these costs out, and so far has taken about $400. The employee is doing nothing wrong. This is a car dealership, and they give out rental cars to customers, while they are working on the car. Please help, and tell us what can be done.

A: It will depend on your employment contract.

You are independent contractor in most of the case. It is really up to your agreement with your company.

If you are an employee (with W-2), then it is illegal.

Q: New Car Dealership to Dealership Transfer Cost?
I just bought a New Car in Kansas City and was told that the closest dealership that had the car was in Illinois which is about 5+ hours one way. When I get the car it had only 150 miles on it and when I found the Window Sticker it says it came from Columbia MO only 2 hrs. one way. I paid 300 dollars to have it brought here with the expectation that it was a substantial shipping distance. I could have gone to pick it up myself. Should I make a big deal about this to the dealership I got it from or just let it slide?
Yea Honestly thats what I wanted to know is was it a fair charge or did they just tack on an extra 300? Thanks for answers.

A: Harley Drive is a moron! Don’t even consider what he said.

300 to have the car from 150 miles away is fair. Just because the sticker says that it came from MO, doesn’t mean it actually came from there, some cars can go to several dealers before finding a home in someone’s driveway.

Or, they could have thought they were getting one from Illinois, but found one closer. Either way, they aren’t trying to screw you, they just need to cover their cost. Let it go.

In response to the second answer: A dealer that doesn’t charge to get the car, usually has the money in the gross profit to cover it, they will NOT lose money to get you a car.

Q: what taxes do I have to pay if i buy a car in illinois?
I bought a car in Dupage county about a year and a half ago I got a loan and taxes and everything was added to the total amount. I live in cook county and now cook county is telling me I have to pay taxes on the car for cook county. When you buy a car do you pay taxes for were you bought it or were you live or both and should the dealership have included all taxes with the final price?

A: You need to pay the Cook County taxes. I know it puts you in a bad position, but the dealer made a mistake by not charging you the Cook County taxes when you purchased the vehicle.

Cars bought in DuPage county have a funky rule (described below), but the only people it does not apply to is Cook County residents.
It has to be because the sales tax is much higher in Chicago and Mayor Daley wants his money for the Olympics and O’Hare expansion.

I actually have been through this before, so I did some investigating.
I live in Kendall County and purchased a car in DuPage county in the spring of 2007.
During the paperwork, the dealership charged me DuPage county taxes, which are higher than Kendall county taxes by 1% (at the time). I immediately objected, but the dealer still charged me the DuPage county taxes.

When I looked into it, I found out that DuPage county is the only county in the state where all vehicle purchases use the DuPage county tax rate instead of the county where the vehicle is being registered. The only exception is Cook County (as described above).

Someone actually wrote into the Chicago Tribune recently with this question, as well, and they gave the exact same response.

Q: I bought a car in Illinois 3 months ago and still do not have a certificate of origin. Is this legal?
The dealer keeps giving me the run-around saying that the car was transferred between various dealerships and they used up the designees so they had to request a new certificate of origin which is what has taken so long. Don’t have a title either so can’t register my car. Anyone have any resources for the legality of this omission?

A: One more trip to the dealer. Tell them your patience is at an end, that you have a car you can’t register, and they have 72 hours to fix it or you are going to the state attorney general.

Q: Sales tax/fees on out of state used car?
I live in Indiana but will probably be buying a used car at an Illinois dealership. From what I’ve read, I will pay sales tax when I register my car in Indiana, at the IN state rate. But I need a temporary plate from IL (I assume) to drive it home, so do I pay for this at the dealership at the time of purchase? What fees should I expect on top of the actual purchase price?

A: Sales tax is paid based on where you live. You can register it there, but you’ll get dinged the difference when you re-register it where you are. The dealer should give you wherewith to get home.

Q: I need a dealership to help me buy a car at an auto auction because they’re the only ones who can do it.?
I’m in illinois. And only dealerships can do this because they have the permits. Does any1 know any dealership owner that can help me? Or someone who sells cars that can talk to the dealership to help me out? An auto auction i’d like to go to is Rockford Auto Auction.

A: Just go talk to a small dealership with you and see if they’ll let you go with them to their next car auction. You might have to pay them to go though. But there are plenty of free public auctions you can go to that don’t require you to be a dealer.

Q: Can a dealer repo a car in Illinois if they forged a document for employment verification?
My bro in law is going thru a problem and we need some advice. A small dealership closed a deal with him on a Maxima (He’s 19 years old) and a loan got approved. A couple days later the woman in HR at his job asked him if a paper, that was faxed in, to release his info for verification was his signature and he said no because it wasn’t. Since HR said they couldn’t verify his info, they find out later the bank cancelled the loan. Turns out the dealer forged his signature. So they told him he had to find another bank tho we argued they would have to since it was their fault the loan got cancelled (his credit is good). Yesterday the car got repoed. He put $3000 in cash. Can they do this if they forged his signature? They are on the Better business bureau as unsatifactory for another incident. Anyone have any advice?

A: The very best advice anyone can give you is to see an attorney. There’s more to this than meets the eye and an attorney is really the only appropriate way to deal with it, and the only way to insure your brother gets what is in his best interest. Go to an attorney.
