Q: How do I get license plates for a used car I’m buying in Chicago and driving to NYC?
I’m buying a used car (from the owner) in Chicago and driving it back to NYC. Do I need to get the temporary plates before I leave NYC, or do I get temporary plates from the DMV in Chicago? Also, do I get NY plates or IL plates? Does it matter that my license is IL? Thanks for any help!
I’m buying the car from a person, not a dealer. How do I get the right temp plates?
A: And the correct answer IS: When you get to Chicago and your transaction Is completed to your satisfaction you then go to the CHICAGO DMV, NOT NY and give to them 1) Proof of Insurance (Most Times a binder-NY State Bar Coded Insurance card will be unacceptable) 2) your drivers license 3) your home address (Make sure Its the same address as on the insurance BINDER) Bill of sale-Title for the new used vehicle (The fact that you have a Il. Drivers license MAY make a difference) It would to me. If everything is to the DMV’s satisfaction you will receive an “In Transit Permit”Which is usually good for 30 days. Some states only 20 days. You MUST have an address In NY State that can be verified and like I said before Your Insurance BINDER MUST have this address. Good luck
Q: dear people i have only 10000 US dollars . which used cars can i buy?

Q: How to buy a used car from a person?
How is the title transfer, plates, and tax done when you buy a used car from a person in a different city (chicago, 2 hours away from my house) but in the same state?
A: You pay the person for the vehicle, they sign the title over, you both should sign a bill of sale that is detailed about the vehicle (mileage, VIN, make, model, color and selling price and if it is being sold as-is.) If there is a lien on the title then you should get paperwork from the lien holder if it was paid off. If not, then there is more work that should be done before any money exchanges hands. You then go to the DMV, you pay the taxes and get the plates and titles transferred.
Q: I live in Chicago, I need to buy a used car but I don’t want to use my plates from my old car(ticket ) Help!
A: No problem. Just apply for new plates as if you owned two cars at the same time.
The only reason to use the OLD plates is to save money. Just forget about that and spend a little more to start out with NEW plates on your “second” car.
If the used car dealer is helping you with a title transfer, and the trade-in of your first car… just tell him/her to treat it as a new plates situation at the license bureau.
PS: How much was that TICKET??
Q: Used cars, first car, help?!?!?!?!?
Okay, so I am getting my first car. I need an inexpensive car that is reliable and used. It has to look good and run well. I want something $1,000 or less. I would prefer NOT to have a car from the 1990’s. Any kind of website would be appreciated. BTW, I am looking for something in North Chicago, or around the Chicago land area. I am getting my license and driver’s permit this year, and I want the car to be able to practice in and drive around until I get a job and get a better car. Please help!
Thanks so much in advance.
Just in case you need this information, I am 15 turning 16 this year.
A FASHIONABLE car, something I wouldn’t be embarrased to drive in. Either BLACK or SILVER; no funky colors. Like, not too shabby or anything. Sorry my standards are set so high, but come on; this is my very FIRST car. I am excited! Pleaseeee help me(;
A: It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – car-insurance.22web.net
Q: Where can I find auto financing in Chicago for people with HORRIBLE credit?
I need to buy a car immediately for a new job and I have horrible credit. Does anyone know where I can go. I have $1000 to put down been renting my home for 2 years and at my job for 2 1/2 years. I’m looking for a cheap used car or a cheap new one.
A: Sounds like Buy Here Pay Here would be your best bet, you can usually find those dealers in the paper or the yellow pages, but be forewarned, your are going to pay at least %18 interest and probably more like %21. Don’t do it unless you can afford to make double payments on the car or if you plan on getting your credit back in decent shape within a year or so. Once you establish a decent credit history you can refinance and get a more realistic rate, something like %8.
Q: Leasing a car or buying a used car?
How much money is required to lease a new car, im 18 and i have very good credit(my mom started my credit history young). I only have $1,000 so im trying to decide which is better because its alot of car lots in chicago that offer bad credit, good credit $500 down for any used car. im trying to get a car by may 1st. What should i do?
A: Leasing a car only makes sense if you don’t drive much and don’t plan to keep the car after the term. It’s typically more expensive in the long run.
If you plan to keep the car or have plans for modding it, you’ll want to buy it.
Q: $12,000 – Whats that best used car that I can get??
I need a good used car. I live in Chicago so i cant have anything rear wheel cause the snow. And i dont have a garage so its gonna be outside all winter so durability is big. I am thinking maybe a GrandPrix GT, Wrangler, Audi A4….With exception for the Wrangler I would like something nice i.e. leather, sunroof, V6
Any suggestions????
Thanks
A: Where I am, I can get a Mercedez, Audi, BMW or WW of late 90 or early 2000s for that price. I had an Opel Record with a sun roof 20 years ago. I still love the feel of that car. Kids enjoy it. I think you should go for a new car. Used cars are always expensive in the long run.
Q: Did you ever wonder why the University of Chicago (the NeoCon Mecca) made Obama a Constitutional Law Professor?
Why would the most famous NeoCon center of learning give Tenure to a Hawaiian Hippie Surfer from Occidental College.
I actually like Obama but crazy stuff like this just makes me think the Puppet Master is pulling his strings.
Like Bill Clinton the Son of a used Car Salesman turns out to be the direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson and gets Grants to attend the Best Universities in the World.
A: no i don’t wonder. Obama has not shown any signs that would indicate that he’s a neo-conservative. he sure as hell doesn’t follow their ideas on foreign policy or free trade.
Q: buying a used car now what?
I am buying a used 1999 jeep grand Cherokee from my uncle for $4000. His current sticker is expired so i could not drive it home. What do i have to do to be able to drive the car and have it be mine? I have insurance currently for my old car and my license what process do i have to do to get this car to be mine and able to drive legally. I’m in Chicago, IL
A: first get your insurance changed over and then take the info down to the tag office get a tag and sticker and drive it
remember when you call your insurance write the info down because the tag office will need it
Q: Where can I get a better price for selling an used Mercedes car?
I am in Chicago and Mercedes car seems not so popular here.
Where can I find a buyer soon with a good price?
A: I’m in Chicago too, and Mercedes cars still sell very well here, in spite of the slow auto industry.
I recommend posting your Mercedes on autotrader.com and on craigslist.com.
Just out of curiosity, what model of Mercedes do you have?
Q: Where to buy a good used car cheap?
I need to know where I can buy a cheap car. Like as cheap as possible, but still runs and doesn’t really need much work. in chicago area
A: The best thing is to find a family member or co-worker who is selling a car, and might sell it to you cheap as a favor.
Otherwise, what you are looking for is not around. The phrase “You don;t get something for nothing” applies to this situation. If the car was a reliable car that needed little or nothing, it will not be cheap.
Instead of wasting tons of time on an impossible quest, ask around, people you know.
Q: Im interested in trading in my car for a new pickup truck. How can I go about finding the best deal possible?
I have a 00 Nissan Sentra and would like a brand new truck. Im sick of used cars. I can afford payments up to $300. I live outside Chicago…but is it true that the farther away from the city you live the cheaper the car? Help needed please!! Thanks!
A: I would say that dealers out in the ‘burbs would probably price their vehicles HIGHER, as they get less traffic than a dealer on a busy blvd in the city.
The best way is to go on line and ask dealers for a price quote, then pick the one that is best. Print out the quote and don’t let them pull any tricks on you.
I did that and got a good price on a Tundra

Q: where can i buy a used Peugeot 406 saloon car in chicago, 60490?
A: I have never heard of any modern models imported for the American or Canadian market.
1991 was the last year that the 405 and 205 were sold in at least Florida, California and Ohio. maybe more places.
You could phone this PEUGEOT PARTS company in Vermont:
http://www.peugeotparts.us/
he doesn’t list parts for the 406 at all, but he might know of one importer?
